Transporters seek faster infra upgrades in Sector 26

Chandigarh: Parking space shortages, pending drainage works and traffic management issues dominated a review meeting between the Chandigarh Transport Association and municipal corporation officials Thursday, with transporters seeking time-bound solutions to longstanding problems in the Transport Area, Sector 26.Representatives of the association raised concerns over sewerage and storm water drainage projects, parking arrangements, access control and the need for better coordination between the Chandigarh Traffic Police and enforcement teams. They also flagged the need for improved civic infrastructure and amenities in the transport hub.The issues were discussed at a meeting chaired by MC chief engineer Sanjay Arora, who reviewed ongoing development works and the status of key projects in the area.The meeting also took stock of the labour hostel project, truck parking arrangements and measures to strengthen CCTV surveillance. Officials discussed fogging operations and the installation of additional CCTV cameras in consultation with the corporation’s wings concerned.Arora directed officials to examine the issues raised by the transporters on priority and ensure better coordination among departments for their timely resolution. He also stressed the need to set clear deadlines for ongoing works and ensure their completion within stipulated timelines.Assuring transporters of prompt action, the chief engineer said the corporation would address genuine concerns through coordinated and time-bound measures.
