Ahmedabad: Between 3pm and 4pm, the city received an average 10.3mm of rainfall. Morning clouds gave way to thunderstorms, and most of the city experienced strong winds, lightning, and moderate to heavy rain.According to AMC data, Vasna received 34mm of rainfall till 8pm, followed by 32mm in Paldi, 26mm in Sarkhej, 23.5mm in Danapith, 21.5mm in Navrangpura, 21mm in Asarva, 18mm in Memnagar, and 17mm in Jodhpur.Amdavadis were caught unawares by the intensity of the rain, which lasted for more than an hour. Afterwards, the clouds lingered, but the rain reduced to a drizzle.In all, the city recorded 14mm of rainfall till 8pm.India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast generally cloudy skies with occasional spells of rain on Monday in Ahmedabad.On Sunday, maximum temperature was 33.8 degrees celsius, 0.2 degrees lower than normal. Minimum temperature at 24.5 degrees was 0.5 degrees lower than normal.The IMD bulletin indicated withdrawal of monsoon from parts of Rajasthan on Sunday and indicated chances of withdrawal from parts of Saurashtra and Kutch in the next 2-3 days.The forecast for Monday indicated chances of light to moderate rain in parts of Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar.On Sunday, 85 talukas of Gujarat received 1mm or more of rainfall. Overall, the state has received 88% of normal seasonal rain, according to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) data.The standing committee meeting of AMC on Sunday took various decisions, including those related to addressing waterlogging and the forecast.Kamlesh Patel, chairman of the standing committee, said the city has 147 spots with recurring waterlogging problems.“It came to our notice that some of the spots are not monitored regularly, and thus the instructions have been given to install CCTVs at such spots so that the issues can be addressed after review from the AMC’s central control room,” he said. “The presence of AMC personnel to reduce waterlogging would also be considered.”After reviewing the recent failure of timely forecasting, Patel said AMC collaborated with C-DAC, with good results in 2025.As some forecasts this season have come under scrutiny, officials have been asked to review software and make necessary changes to ensure timely intervention by the civic authorities.
