GURGAON: Adidas has confirmed a reduction in roles within its technology organisation in India, following reports that hundreds of employees at its Gurgaon tech hub have been affected by a restructuring exercise.According to a report by Wocult, around 350 or more employees could be affected at the Gurgaon India Tech Hub, which has a workforce of about 700.The reported cuts would amount to roughly 45-50% of the hub’s employees and include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. The figure, however, has not been independently verified, and Adidas has not confirmed the number.Employees were informed about the restructuring during a town hall on September 15, according to people familiar with the matter.
Employees divided into two groups
According to the report, affected employees were divided into two groups. One group received exit letters on September 15.The second group has been asked to remain with the company until December 15 to complete handovers to colleagues at other technology hubs while looking for other roles within Adidas.Employees in this group who do not secure another position by December 15 have reportedly been told that the date will be their last working day.Details of severance packages, notice pay and redeployment assistance could not be independently confirmed.
Adidas confirms role reduction
Adidas confirmed that it had reduced roles within its India technology organisation but did not disclose the number of employees affected.“As part of our ongoing efforts to align our operating model with the evolving needs of the business, we have made the difficult decision to reduce a number of roles within our Technology organization in India,” the company said.The company said the changes were aimed at simplifying parts of its organisation, strengthening critical capabilities and positioning Adidas for long-term growth in a rapidly changing business and technology environment.Adidas also said it remained committed to supporting affected employees with “care, respect, and appropriate transition assistance”.“India remains a strategically important market for adidas, and our Technology Hub continues to play a critical role in enabling the company’s growth, innovation, and digital transformation ambitions,” it said.In a separate statement cited in the report, Adidas said the impact of the changes was less than 20% of its India Technology organisation. The company did not provide a specific headcount or confirm the reported figure of 350 or more employees.
Adidas’ India tech operations
Adidas’ Gurgaon office houses its local marketing organisation as well as one of its Global Engineering Tech Hubs. The company launched its India Tech Hub in Gurgaon in 2021 to attract technology and engineering talent working on Adidas products.The company has also expanded its operations in India in recent years. It opened a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.The restructuring comes as Adidas says it is seeking to simplify its technology organisation while strengthening capabilities it considers critical to its business and digital transformation plans.
