Jaipur: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) launched a statewide protest campaign Thursday demanding that student union elections in Rajasthan be restored, with police detaining over 30 students during a demonstration at Rajasthan University, Jaipur. The protest escalated after ABVP members climbed the university’s main gate and moved onto JLN Marg, leading to a scuffle with police. Those detained included Bharat Bhushan Yadav, ABVP’s national convener for universities.

Parallel protests were held at Ajmer’s Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur, Jai Narain Vyas University in Jodhpur and Shekhawati University in Sikar.Yadav said Congress govt had suppressed students’ voice.

Gandhi Nagar Police station house officer Bhajan Lal said, “As students climbed the gate of the Rajasthan University and tried to block the main road, we took action to detain students in our vehicles. No force was used on them.”The student wing of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) also staged a protest at RU Thursday. Kamal Chaudhary, a student and a member of RLP, said, “The state govt is attempting to suppress students’ voice. We will not be intimidated; instead, we will stage a vigorous protest to press our demands.”Agitations regarding student union elections have been going on in Rajasthan for some time, with NSUI and other students protesting with the same demand.The protest was not limited to Jaipur. In Ajmer, ABVP functionaries protested at the main gate of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University (MDSU). At Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur, police had to intervene as ABVP and NSUI members clashed with each other while protesting for student union elections.
