BJP, BVA clash over credit for sports complex inauguration

Virar: A row over credit for the inauguration of a sports complex and auditorium in Virar escalated into a political confrontation between the BJP and Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) on Saturday, with BJP workers staging a six-hour protest at the venue.The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) has built the ₹69-crore sports complex at Bolinj in Virar West. The BVA had scheduled its official inauguration for Saturday evening. The BJP alleged that its MP’s name was omitted from the invitation and announced its own inauguration programme on Friday night. Around 10 am on Saturday, MP Hemant Savara, MLAs Rajan Naik and Sneha Dubey Pandit, along with BJP corporators, entered the complex amid heavy police presence and conducted a symbolic inauguration.BJP workers then staged a six-hour sit-in, opposing the BVA event. A large number of supporters from both parties gathered, raising slogans and creating tension, prompting police to deploy additional personnel.Following a meeting between leaders of both parties, the BJP ended its protest. The BVA later held the official inauguration at 6 pm, with former MLAs Hitendra Thakur and Kshitij Thakur performing the ceremony.
