Rajkot: The presence of mind of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable averted a tragedy on Saturday, saving the life of a 61-year-old passenger who slipped beneath a moving train at Jamnagar railway station.According to Sunil Kumar Meena, senior divisional commercial manager of Rajkot division, the incident when the Rajkot–Okha Passenger was at the station on Saturday. The passenger, Batuk Das, was en route from Rajkot to Dwarka when he stepped down onto the platform at Jamnagar to fetch drinking water.As the train began to depart, Das rushed to get back on board the moving train. In the process, he lost his footing and slipped into the gap between the platform edge and the moving train.Constable Amit Dahiya, who was on platform duty, sprang into action without hesitation. Reacting in seconds, Dahiya lunged forward and pulled Das clear of the gap before he could be pulled under the wheels. Owing to Dahiya’s swift intervention, Das escaped without injury.Upon receiving word of the incident, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mukesh Kumar and his team rushed to the scene. Railway personnel verified Das’s condition and ensured his well-being before helping him reboard the same train, which was subsequently cleared to resume its journey.After the incident, the Railway administration issued an appeal urging passengers strictly against boarding or getting off moving trains. Officials emphasized that commuters must only enter or exit carriages once a train has come to a complete halt, cautioning that a momentary lapse in judgment can prove fatal.
