NEW DELHI: Amid the escalating controversy over the alleged assault on CJP activist Nishu Azad’s father during a protest at Jantar Mantar, an earlier video released on July 24 has resurfaced, in which Sanjay Azad appeared to say that the injury to his head was caused unintentionally.The video has drawn attention as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and Nishu Azad continue to demand the arrest of Swatantra Bharadwaj over the incident.In the video posted on Nishu’s Instagram page, Sanjay Azad can be heard saying that the injury to his head was caused unintentionally. He also claimed that had police not intervened within two minutes, Bharadwaj could have faced a much worse situation.Referring to a snip shown in the video, Sanjay said police had misunderstood the situation and believed that he was attacking Bharadwaj.He then challenged Bharadwaj to a one-on-one confrontation, saying he would come wherever Bharadwaj wanted.The resurfacing of the video comes amid a sharp escalation in the row over the Jantar Mantar incident. CJP representatives on Friday gathered outside Parliament Street police station, demanding strict action against Bharadwaj and alleging that Sanjay had been assaulted during the protest.The controversy intensified after a podcast clip purportedly showed Bharadwaj claiming that he had “cracked the skull” of Sanjay and avoided jail because of his political connections.Bharadwaj, however, has rejected the allegations, saying he acted in self-defence after being surrounded by several people.Delhi Police has said Sanjay’s injuries were “simple in nature” and maintained that claims of a skull fracture were not supported by the medical report. Police said a case had been registered and legal action was underway.Meanwhile, Nishu and CJP representatives have continued to demand Bharadwaj’s arrest, with the group claiming that Delhi Police assured them of action within 72 hours.
