Phase 2 of population census to start from Dec 1

Panaji: With the housing and houselisting phase completed, the second phase of the Census — population enumeration — will begin in Goa on Dec 1 and end on Jan 4. Since this phase requires details for each individual in every household, census officials have urged citizens to participate in large numbers through self-enumeration.This round of population enumeration will also record caste data. For the first time, the 2027 Census portal will offer a Konkani language option for data collection.Self-enumeration will be available on the Census website, http://se.census.gov.in, from Nov 16 onwards. Officials said households that complete self-enumeration will spend less time with the enumerator during the physical visit.“If a household has six members, the household will have to spend a significant amount of time providing each individual’s data. If self-enumeration is carried out between Nov 16 and 30, household members can provide information online anytime during these 15 days, at their convenience. They will receive an SE (self-enumeration) ID after completing the process. Between Dec 1 and Jan 4, when the enumerator comes to your household, you only have to share your SE reference code,” an official said.Households that do not opt for self-enumeration will have all details collected by the enumerator during the field visit.Population enumeration will cover 40 questions, including date of birth, marital status, spouse, nationality, religion, caste, disability (if any), mother tongue, literacy, digital literacy, Covid vaccination, number of bank accounts, children born, occupation, and migration history, among others.“Under Section 15 of the Census Act, 1948, all individual information is kept strictly confidential. It is used only for statistical purposes and will not be disclosed. Section 8(2) of the Census Act, 1948, makes every person legally bound to provide true and correct information to the best of their knowledge,” the official said.
