Kolkata: A church in Krishnanagar’s Jalalkhali was allegedly attacked by members of a right-wing group on Friday during a prayer service.According to Bangiya Christiya Pariseba, members of Hindu Jagran Manch allegedly organised a gathering near the church and provocative speeches were given against Christians. When some church members protested, they were allegedly attacked. In protest, villagers blocked the road. Police arrived and restored order.A Santhali convention started at the church on Oct 1 and will conclude on Oct 11. The Hindu Jagran Manch members alleged forced conversion as they demonstrated.“Members of the Hindu Jagran Manch made false claims of conversion. However, when the police arrived, they claimed they were attacked while chanting the Hanuman Chalisa and demanded the arrest of the church head. We have filed a written complaint,” said Samir Lahiri, a local.While calls to the local police station went unanswered, Hindu Jagran Manch denied all allegations.BCP condemned the incident, describing it as a grave breach of public harmony. It demanded immediate intervention of state govt.
