Gurgaon: A 34-year-old labourer died after falling from the third floor of a house under construction in Sector 70A Thursday afternoon when a shuttering plank allegedly came loose, causing him to lose his balance.The deceased, Pintu, from Samastipur in Bihar, was working at the site when the accident occurred around 1pm. Police said he was taken to Park Hospital in Sector 47, where doctors declared him dead.According to a police officer, “A large shuttering plank slipped loose from the side and struck Pintu around the waist, causing him to lose his balance and fall from the third floor.”“The information we received was that a shuttering plank came loose and struck the worker, causing him to fall. A rod hit his chest, but it did not pierce through his neck,” the officer said.The house was being built on a vacant plot, and construction work had started only recently, police said. A Scene of Crime team was called to examine the site as part of the investigation.Police said safety arrangements were in place at the construction site and that no negligence by the contractor had been established so far. No FIR had been registered against the contractor at the time of filing this report.Pintu’s family members reached Gurgaon after learning about his death. Police said further action would depend on the findings of the investigation and the postmortem examination.
