ASI dies of suspected heart attack during promotion test

Jodhpur: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) died of a suspected heart attack during a physical efficiency test for promotion at Rajasthan Police Training Centre (RPTC) in Mandore, Jodhpur, Friday, a day after another police officer died in a road accident in the district.The deceased, Durga Ram Bheel (50), was posted at Girab police station in Barmer district and hailed from Netraad village. He reached the training centre on 7 am to appear for the test for promotion to sub-inspector.According to a police officer, Bheel completed the two-kilometre run and was scheduled to undergo the remaining physical tests. Around 8:30 am, however, he complained of severe chest pain and his condition deteriorated.He was taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but could not save him. He was declared dead at the hospital.“He is suspected to have suffered a heart attack during the physical examination,” the officer said, adding that Bheel had completed the run before collapsing.His body was kept in the mortuary of a govt hospital in Jodhpur.The incident came a day after circle inspector Budharam Bishnoi, posted at Jhadol police station in Udaipur, died in a road accident near Chamu in Jodhpur district Wednesday night.Bishnoi was returning to Udaipur in his personal vehicle after attending a hearing at Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur when his car rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley on the Jodhpur-Udaipur highway.
