Ahmedabad: The applications of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) in joint replacement surgeries are no longer futuristic with increasing number of hospitals adopting it for better outcomes, said experts in the city on Tuesday. The experts were addressing media as part of IAACON 2026, attended by 1,000 delegates and 180 national and international faculty members.Dr H P Bhalodia, organising chairman of Indian Arthroplasty Association Conference (IAACON) 2026, said that several setups in the city are now using AI-aided cameras, which is a different technique compared to robotics, for better precision.“While human skills can achieve 80%-85% or more precision, it can be upward of 90% when assisted with tech. It is used primarily for better alignment so that the wear and tear with use could be reduced,” he said. “Robotics is also increasingly being used for joint replacement surgeries.”The organisers said that as part of the conference, they will also organise IAA’s first large-scale workshop on cadaver to perform surgeries by the budding surgeons.
