Guwahati: Assam began a three-day tribute to cultural icon Zubeen Garg at his memorial, Zubeen Kshetra, in Sonapur on Thursday.Zubeen’s wife, Garima, said, “We have begun observing his death anniversary by marking Sept 17 as Zubeen Divas (Day).”Recalling Zubeen’s nature, she said, “He loved to stay among people. I am sure that he is very happy seeing the people of Assam have never let him feel lonely throughout this year since his demise. It is his blessings which give me courage in everything.”Cultural affairs minister Bimal Bora said state govt would provide logistical and other support for the cultural programmes and prayer sessions.Bollywood composer Salim Merchant paid tribute to Zubeen at his cremation ground in Sonapur.“Zubeen has left behind a message of love and music, which would continue to inspire people who came together to remember him,” he said.Thousands of fans are expected to visit the memorial over the three days. The Assam State Drivers’ Union has offered low-fare rides for visitors.
