Bengaluru: A private environmental testing laboratory, Bengaluru Analytics and Research Laboratory Private Limited, has come under scrutiny after a surprise inspection by forest, ecology and environment minister Ramalinga Reddy and senior Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) officials found multiple irregularities.The inspection found that the laboratory had obtained prior permission from the ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC) stating that three analysts would be employed. However, only one analyst was present. Officials found that the other two had not worked at the laboratory for the past five months.The laboratory’s Consent for Establishment issued by the KSPCB had also expired in 2025. Despite this, the unit was operating without a valid consent from the pollution control board.Officials found that the laboratory lacked a proper system to dispose of waste generated from its activities. Instead, the waste was allegedly being discharged into an open pit.The inspection has raised concerns over compliance with environmental regulations and the laboratory’s adherence to prescribed standards.
