Jind: A 35-year-old married man climbed a mobile phone tower in Bahadurgarh village of Safidon subdivision on Sunday, seeking a divorce from his wife and permission to marry the woman with whom he is currently in a live-in relationship.Sunil, a labourer and resident of Bahadurgarh village, has an eight-year-old son from his marriage. He climbed the tower to press for his demands, drawing a crowd of villagers who alerted the police.A Dial-112 team reached the spot and began speaking to Sunil, urging him to come down safely. Villagers also repeatedly appealed to him to climb down. However, he remained on the tower till the filing of this copy.According to villagers, Sunil is seeking to end his existing marriage and marry his current partner. The unusual protest has attracted considerable attention in the village, with police focusing on bringing him down safely.This was not the first time Sunil had taken to a mobile tower to press the same demands. A few days ago, he had climbed a tower in nearby Rattakhera village and raised his demand for divorce and marriage with his current partner. Police and villagers had eventually persuaded him to come down.On Sunday, police personnel and local residents again maintained a dialogue with Sunil and continued efforts to persuade him to descend. The situation remained unresolved till late Sunday night. Jind SP Kuldeep Singh said that the youth had climbed a mobile tower in the past as well. He said that the matter is personal and that efforts are being made to counsel him and bring him down safely.
