Ghaziabad: Police in Ghaziabad have formed a women-only group, Mahila Volunteer Force, with the aim of acting as a bridge between law enforcers and female victims, as well as undertaking campaigns that will enhance women’s safety and welfare.So far, 591 women from different professions, including doctors, advocates, teachers, social workers, homemakers, counsellors and entrepreneurs, have joined the group.ACP (women and crime) Suchita Singh said Vijay Nagar recorded the highest participation, with 42 women adding their names to the group; followed by Tila Mod with 39 and Indirapuram with 25.“This network, formed at the police station level, will assist law enforcement officers in activities related to women’s safety and welfare in accordance with local conditions and requirements. We believe it will strengthen “Safe Women, Empowered Society” initiative.The volunteers will work in close coordination and convey problems related to women and girls in the area. They have also been tasked with spreading awareness about women’s safety, she said.“The volunteers will also inform other women about relevant govt schemes and support systems. They will connect them to counsellors and support systems whenever needed and cooperate in awareness programmes about cybersecurity and women’s rights,” she added.
