Man searching for missing son assaulted, robbed by drug addict

Ludhiana: A 65-year-old man searching for his missing son was allegedly assaulted and robbed by a drug addict, who confined him inside a house in the Jawaddi area and repeatedly hit him on the head with a pestle until he lost consciousness. The accused allegedly then dumped him by the roadside and fled.The victim, Nand Lal, 65, of Dugri, was later taken to hospital, following which the police were informed. On his statement, Dugri police booked Simranjit Singh, 30, of Jawaddi Kalan, who is on the run.ASI Balwinder Singh, the investigating officer, said Nand Lal’s son Aman, 27, had gone missing from their house on Sept 2. That evening, Nand Lal was searching for him behind a private hospital when he came across Simranjit.The accused was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time. When Nand Lal questioned him about why he was roaming in the area, Simranjit allegedly became offended and forcibly took him to the house of his acquaintance, Gurwant Singh.There, the accused allegedly assaulted Nand Lal with a pestle, repeatedly hitting him on the head until he became unconscious. The accused then allegedly dumped him by the roadside and fled. Before escaping, he also allegedly snatched Rs 2,200 in cash that Nand Lal was carrying.The ASI said police recorded Nand Lal’s statement on Saturday and registered an FIR against Simranjit under charges related to causing hurt, wrongful restraint, confinement and snatching.The accused remains absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to arrest him, the ASI said.
