MUMBAI: The city has debuted among the world’s leading workcation destinations in the fourth edition of International Workplace Group’s (IWG) Work from Anywhere Index, joining Bangkok, Tokyo, Barcelona and other cities in a global evaluation of destinations that support remote working while travelling.Mumbai is the only Indian city on the index, scoring 77 and ranking ahead of London and Miami. Bangkok topped the 2026 index with 106.5, followed by Tokyo (96.5) and Barcelona (95.5). Porto and Vancouver completed the top five, while Budapest, Naples, Medellin, Lisbon and Seoul also featured.The annual index assesses cities on climate, broadband speed, accommodation, transport, food, culture and availability of flexible workspaces. IWG said the growing popularity of work-from-anywhere policies, enabled by hybrid working and access to workspaces globally, is driving demand for workcation destinations.“Mumbai’s inclusion in the 2026 Index reflects the maturing of India’s remote-work infrastructure and the city’s growing appeal as a destination for professionals,” IWG said in a report released on Monday.Mumbai scored highest on cost of transport, availability of coworking or flexible workspaces, climate and accommodation. It lost points on broadband speed and quality, availability of local events and happiness index.The report said successful workcation destinations must offer more than holiday appeal, combining flexible workspaces with culture.Said Harsh Lambah, country head, India, IWG: “Mumbai’s place in this year’s Work from Anywhere Index reflects what we are seeing across India’s flexible workspace market more broadly.”
