Varanasi: The centuries-old friendly ties between India and Japan are set to enter a new phase of industrial cooperation, with a high-profile Japanese delegation arriving in Kashi on Saturday for a two-day visit to explore investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh and strengthen tourism and cultural exchanges. Led by the governor of Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture, the delegation includes senior officials and CEOs of leading Japanese companies.The visit comes as the Yogi govt focuses on promoting foreign investment, industrial development and employment generation in Uttar Pradesh, while showcasing India’s rich culture, religion, art and the heritage of Kashi on the global stage.After touching down at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur, the delegarion made its first stop at Asha Mahavidyalaya, where they were welcomed by Awadhesh Singh, BJP MLA from the Pindra Assembly constituency.Later, the Japanese delegation toured Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon, witnessed the world-famous Ganga aarti and experienced the art and culture of Kashi. The visitors also got a glimpse of the city’s centuries-old spiritual, cultural and handicraft traditions. The delegation was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh tourism mnister Jaiveer Singh.In the evening, during a dinner at the Taj Hotel, members of the delegation were introduced to Indian culture, art and handicrafts.On Sunday, a segment of the delegation will pay homage at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, while others will depart from the airport.Uttar Pradesh is actively courting foreign investment, driving industrial growth, and generating employment through enhanced infrastructure, robust law and order, investor-friendly policies, streamlined ease of doing business, and a single-window clearance system.The Japanese contingent is expected to probe collaboration opportunities in sectors spanning hydrogen and clean energy, semiconductors, electronics, automobiles, infrastructure, tourism, and human resource development.In a vibrant display of Kashi’s artisanal heritage, stalls showcasing One District One Product and Geographical Indication wares have been erected. Highlights include Gulabi Meenakari, delicate soft stone carvings, wooden lacquerware and toys, Banarasi silk sarees, and other indigenous handicrafts.To round off the experience, the guests will be treated to cultural performances featuring Indian classical music and dance. Kathak recitals, folk dances, and instrumental renditions will spotlight the rich cultural tapestry of India and Kashi.
