IP Univ ‘fixes’ wrong seat allotment

New Delhi: After some candidates flagged discrepancies in seat allotments, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University withheld the initial spot round 2 (online) results for five programmes Saturday. A revised list was released in the evening, it claimed. In a notification issued early in the day, the university said, “On verification (of aspirants’ complaints), it appears that a few candidates were inadvertently allotted seats due to some technical error in the counselling software.” The affected programmes are Bachelor of Computer Applications, Bachelor of Business Administration, BTech, BCom (Hons) and Bachelor of Laws. The development comes a day after the university notified the schedule for spot round 3 offline counselling from Aug 23. In a separate notice Saturday, the university withdrew it and said a fresh schedule would be uploaded shortly.Vice-chancellor Mahesh Verma told TOI that the error was not on the university’s part. National Informatics Centre (NIC), which hosts the university’s online admission and counselling portal, “mistakenly” included candidates who had withdrawn their applications or had not consented to participate in Spot Round 2, he said. NIC has been asked to explain the error, he added. The university could not provide the exact number of candidates affected by the alleged glitch, saying it was not verifiable.A parent of an applicant said results released for various counselling rounds of BA Journalism and Mass Communication and BA English (H) had been cancelled three times. “Students who were allotted colleges can’t take admission after reaching there because IP University’s portal was not functioning. The portal also doesn’t provide details of vacant seats,” said Aram Kumar, demanding that a committee must investigate the alleged irregularities in the admission process and fix responsibility.
