Statue removal sparks protest; would be put back, assures GNN

Gorakhpur: The removal of a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, from Yatayat Tiraha late Friday night triggered a protest by Aam Aadmi Party workers here on Saturday. Gorakhpur Nagar Nigam later assured it would be installed again after work on beautification of the area was complete.AAP district president Vijay Srivastava said it was highly objectionable that statue of the country’s first President and a great leader of the freedom struggle was removed without any public notification and such a move was unacceptable. They demanded that the statue be reinstalled at the earliest.Following the protest, municipal commissioner Ajay Jain and SP City Nimish Patil reached the spot and spoke to the demonstrators.Jain clarified that the statue was removed and kept at a safe location amid work on the beautification of the site and that it would be reinstalled after the project is complete.
