Pune: A 22-year-old man, Gaurav Kale allegedly bludgeoned a woman with an iron rod in a fit of anger on Friday afternoon in Koldare village, some 75km from Pune. Suman Shivaji Kale (59) couldn’t survive the assault and passed away at a Pune hospital on Sunday. Ghodegaon police have arrested the accused from his residence on the charge of murder under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on Sunday.A meagre dispute turned fatal when Suman visited Kale to confront him as to why he had flung a plastic bag at her house on Friday afternoon, police said. When she did not return, her husband set out to check what was happening. “He found that the accused was bludgeoning his wife with an iron pipe. When he tried to save her, the accused assaulted him too,” an officer said.Police said, in events leading up to the incident, it was the husband who first noticed Kale throwing the bag that landed near the gate of their house. He then told Suman about it, who dialed Kale’s mother to raise a complaint. Kale received the call instead and hurled abuses at her. It is then that Suman decided to pay him a visit and confront him.The officer said Suman’s son and other villagers rescued her and took her to a nearby hospital from where she was later shifted to a Pune hospital, where she eventually succumbed during treatment.“We initially registered a case of attempted murder against the accused. After her death, the man was arrested on the charge of murder,” the officer said.
