Hisar: Hundreds of acres of maize and cotton crops were submerged after the Kheri Minor canal developed a major breach near the Bhattu area of Fatehabad district early Monday morning, triggering panic among farmers and raising fears of extensive crop damage.The breach, estimated to be around 20 feet wide, occurred on the canal stretch between Khabra Kalan and Suli Khera villages at around 6 am. With water gushing rapidly through the damaged embankment, nearby agricultural fields were soon inundated.Farmers, including Ran Singh, Kuldeep, Om Prakash Beniwal and others, reported that water had accumulated across their fields, submerging maize and cotton crops. They feared substantial losses if the water was not drained quickly.Soon after the incident came to light, a large number of farmers from neighbouring villages gathered at the spot and informed the concerned department. They demanded that officials immediately plug the breach and assess the extent of crop damage.The farmers also sought compensation for the losses caused by the canal breach and urged the authorities to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
