Varanasi: To further strengthen its teaching infrastructure and enhance students’ research capabilities at UG and PG levels, Banaras Hindu University has launched a new scheme to provide financial support for proposals from faculty members for the modernization of teaching laboratories.The University has invited proposals for establishment of new teaching laboratories as well as for expansion, diversification, or upgradation of existing ones.According to BHU spokesperson, under the scheme, major proposals of Rs. 25 lakh and above will be considered for funding. The initiative is aimed at strengthening laboratory education and enhancing research and innovation capabilities among students. Wherever feasible, the modernization efforts will also seek to align laboratory curricula with the best institutions across the globe.The proposals are expected to focus on increasing student capacity, introducing new experimental modules, upgrading laboratory infrastructure, or replacing existing experiments with contemporary, curriculum-relevant alternatives. A 12-member expert committee, chaired by Prof Parimal Das of Centre for Genetic Disorders, Institute of Science, has been constituted to evaluate and shortlist the proposals. The shortlisted applicants will subsequently be invited to present their proposals before the Committee. These presentations will be open to all faculty members of the University.Proposals may be submitted until August 14. The first stage of the shortlisting process is scheduled to be completed by August 21, while presentations of the shortlisted proposals will be held between August 29 and Sept 3. The Committee’s recommendations will be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor.
