Woman, brother held for Rajasthan youth's murder

Hisar: Days after the body of a youngster was found near Kasaba Minor canal in Maujdin village under the Sadar police station limits, the Sirsa police on Monday claimed to have arrested a young woman and her brother for allegedly murdering the youth over a suspected love affair. Investigators said the accused were arrested following a probe into the murder. The police are also probing the involvement of other persons in the crime.According to the police, the body of an unidentified youth was recovered near Kasaba Minor in July. After conducting a post-mortem examination, the police registered a murder case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation.During the probe, Suresh Kumar, a resident of Fefana in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district, approached the police and identified the deceased as his cousin, Ankit, who had been missing since July 25.Suresh said he recognised Ankit after a photograph of the body circulated on a WhatsApp group. The family later confirmed the identity of the deceased at Sirsa Civil Hospital. The complainant alleged that Ankit was in regular contact with Mamta, a resident of Jamal village, but her family opposed the relationship. He further claimed that the hostility over the alleged affair culminated in Ankit’s murder, after which his body was dumped near the canal.Based on the complaint and evidence gathered during the investigation, Mamta Rani and her brother Rakesh Kumar, both residents of Jamal village, were arrested, said the police.Police said Mamta would be produced before a court and sent to judicial custody, while Rakesh would be taken on police remand for further interrogation. Investigators said the remand would focus on establishing the sequence of events and identifying any additional suspects involved in the alleged murder.
