Varanasi: Bhojpuri singer-actor Ritesh Pandey has registered an FIR against two people, including his neighbour, for allegedly issuing death threats and making an extortion demand.Sarnath police station in charge Pankaj Kumar Tripathi said an FIR was registered late Saturday under Sections 308(5) (extortion by threat of death), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS against Yadav and his unidentified accomplice.Teams have been engaged to nab the accused, he added.In his complaint, Pandey alleged that Bulbul Yadav contacted him by phone and message and demanded money. The caller allegedly threatened to kill Pandey and his family members if the demand was not met.Officials said the assistance of the cyber crime cell had also been sought to trace the phone number, call records and messages linked to the threats. Officials said that, apart from collecting technical evidence and engaging teams to nab the accused persons, necessary measures were being initiated for the safety of the actor and his family.Pandey, who is from the Bhojpuri entertainment industry, has a large following as a singer and actor, with popularity across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and among Bhojpuri-speaking audiences nationwide. Pandey unsuccessfully contested the Bihar Assembly elections from the Rohtas seat on a Jan Suraaj Party ticket and quit the party in Jan.
