Bengaluru: If you have received a notice during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, there is a good chance a political party functionary would soon be at your doorstep, helping you respond to it.With lakhs of voters receiving notices, Congress and BJP functionaries have activated booth-level agents (BLA) to help people produce documents, attend hearings and file Form 6 applications to ensure they retain their names on the final rolls. The mobilisation has turned a voter-roll revision exercise into a constituency-level operation.In BBMP South, more than 4 lakh voters are scheduled to receive notices. Minister and BTM Layout Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy said BLAs were assisting voters during the verification. “We have consistently said minor mistakes for which notices are issued should not be treated as serious infractions,” he said.In Kolar, more than 1.4 lakh notices were issued. Congress MLA Kothur G Manjunath said even his gunman, Vinod Kumar, received one. “I have been clear in our follow-ups that people must attend the hearing in person,” he said.In Bantwal, BJP MLA Rajesh Naik U said 8,000 notices were issued in his constituency, against more than 1.5 lakh in the district. He attributed this to groundwork over three years, including removing names of deceased voters and updating addresses of married women. Dattatri S, BJP’s SIR programme convener, said the party has set up a daily monitoring system.“The state has 10 divisions, each comprising several districts,” he said. “Each division has a coordinator who monitors SIR work. At 8.30pm every day, we discuss issues faced during the day and targets for the following day. BJP is a cadre-based party with extensive grassroots work. We have more than 54,000 active BLA-2 representatives who are assisting people. For voters lost in the ASDDO category, we have set ourselves a target of recovering at least 50%.”GC Chandrashekar, KPCC working president, said they were checking whether voters were facing difficulties in obtaining certificates or completing paperwork. For voters omitted under the ASDDO category, he said BLA-1 representatives, district-level members and block presidents were visiting homes to help complete and submit Form 6.
