Jaipur: Govind Singh Dotasra marked six years as Pradesh Congress Committee president Wednesday, becoming only the second person in party history to serve for this duration continuously.Appointed on July 15, 2020, after Sachin Pilot was ousted for his rebellion against the Gehlot govt, Dotasra’s tenure is now the second-longest in continuity, following Pilot’s nearly six-and-a-half-year record. Even as Dotasra’s tenure places him among the longest-serving state presidents, ex-CM Ashok Gehlot holds the overall record, having served nearly eight years as PCC president across two terms. The milestone for Dotasra arrives amid speculation about potential state leadership changes and restructuring within the party ahead of local body and panchayat elections. Notably, Dotasra has surpassed the five-year limit for an organisational post set by the party’s Udaipur Declaration.Senior party members indicate that seven to eight experienced figures are being considered to succeed Dotasra, highlighting the competitive lobbying within the state unit. Some candidates are referencing the Udaipur resolution to bolster their claims for leadership changes. However, not all party members view the chatter as indicative of an imminent leadership overhaul. One functionary described the speculation as reflective of political ambitions and rivalries on social media, insisting that no formal discussions have taken place regarding Dotasra’s replacement. The party continues to project unity and strength.
