Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on Wednesday rolled out an IP-based public address system at eight major city crossings to deliver real-time alerts on traffic congestion, route diversions, emergencies and other critical updates directly to commuters.JDA commissioner Siddharth Mahajan said the system is designed to strengthen traffic management while also serving as a citywide communication tool for public interest messages. It will be used to broadcast information on road safety, disaster management, environmental conservation, cleanliness campaigns, public welfare schemes and other IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities.“We will install it across 24 locations across the city. While we have initiated the system at eight locations on Wednesday, the system will be introduced at rest 16 selected crossings in phases soon,” stated Mahajan.Officials from JDA’s information technology cell said the system will be linked with the traffic department’s Abhay Command Centre, where officials will receive updates related to congestion, diversions, accidents, emergencies or disaster-like situations. Announcements will then be relayed through speakers installed at intersections, helping motorists take timely decisions and avoid affected stretches.“Through this system announcements will be made to make motorists passing the intersections aware,” the official added.The first eight locations covered are Trimurti Circle, Rambagh Circle, Number 7 Crossing in Jagatpura, Sophia School in Ghatgate, Pinjrapol Gaushala, Jawahar Circle on JLN Marg, the area opposite SMS Medical College, and Jaipur Municipal Corporation headquarters on Tonk Road in Lalkothi.Mahajan said the initiative would improve civic response during emergencies and help authorities provide faster, more reliable urban services citywide.“Delivering timely and reliable information to the public using modern technology is important,” the commissioner stated.
