Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) completed 86% of its project to replace conventional streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights across its jurisdiction.In a release, BNCC said the project, being implemented under public-private partnership (PPP) model, aims to improve energy, public safety and modernise streetlighting infrastructure.According to BNCC commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, installation of centralized control and monitoring System (CCMS) switches is also in progress. Of 1.2 lakh streetlights within BNCC limits, 59,693 were already LED lights and 64,632 were conventional fixtures. So far, 68,907 LED streetlights have been installed, including those mounted on 14,576 vacant poles, BNCC said.To address poorly illuminated areas, the corporation initiated plans to install new streetlight poles, underground cables and aerial bunched (AB) cables based on public complaints and field inspections.In Yelahanka and Byatarayanapura constituencies, BNCC proposed installation of 1,313 new streetlight poles and 63.6km of cable network at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 crore. In Hebbal, Pulikeshinagar and Sarvagnanagar constituencies, there will be 1,601 poles and 46.6km of cable network at over Rs 3.1 crore.
