Dhubri: A six-year-old child was killed after being hit by an earth-laden tractor in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.The accident took place in the Burichatam village under Gossaigaon sub-division in the morning.After being informed, Gossaigaon SDPO Monturam Bora and Sapkata police outpost OC Rajiv Kalita reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for an autopsy.A police source said the tractor, allegedly transporting earth, hit the child and caused critical injuries. The child died at the accident spot. The driver, Nur Alam, and the helper abandoned the vehicle and fled after the accident.Angry villagers demanded the immediate arrest of the absconding driver and strict action against those allegedly involved in illegal earth-cutting in the area.Police launched an investigation and are trying to trace the driver and helper.
