GURGAON: The cyber crime police have arrested six persons for allegedly cheating people by posing as bank officials and offering to adjust credit card reward points against outstanding bills.The arrests were made during the investigation into a cyber fraud case registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station (West) after a city resident complained of being duped of ₹83,305.According to police, the complainant received a phone call on March 5 from a man posing as an Axis Bank employee. The caller claimed that the complainant’s credit card reward points could be adjusted against his outstanding bill to provide a discount. Trusting the caller, the victim shared the required details and was subsequently cheated of ₹83,305.Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under the relevant provisions of law and launched an investigation.The accused have been identified as Farman, Satya Prakash, Narendra Singh (34), Arvind Kumar (26), Vinod and Asif, all residents of different parts of Delhi.Police arrested Farman and Satya Prakash from Sangam Vihar on June 28, while Narendra Singh, Arvind Kumar, Vinod and Asif were arrested from Govindpuri on June 30.During interrogation, police found that Satya Prakash worked as a point-of-sale (POS) agent responsible for issuing SIM cards. Farman allegedly procured a SIM card in his own name through Satya Prakash and later handed it back to him in exchange for a commission. Satya Prakash then passed the SIM card to the other accused, who allegedly used it to impersonate bank employees and target credit card holders by offering fake reward point adjustments.Police said they recovered seven mobile phones, three Motorola walkie-talkie sets, two pages containing a script used for posing as Axis Bank officials offering reward point adjustments, and four pages carrying details of credit card customers from the accused.The six accused are being questioned to ascertain their involvement in other cyber fraud cases. Further investigation is underway.
