Girl, 15, run over by Haryana Roadways bus in Rewari, dies
Madhu, a resident of Khedi village, was on her way to Rewari for coaching when the accident occurred.

REWARI: A 15-year-old girl, who was critically injured after being hit by a Haryana Roadways bus while attempting to board it at Khedi bus stand in Rewari district on Thursday morning, succumbed to her injuries at PGI Rohtak later in the day.Madhu, a resident of Khedi village, was on her way to Rewari for coaching when the accident occurred. She was initially rushed to the Rewari Trauma Centre and later referred to PGI Rohtak after doctors found her condition critical.According to preliminary information, Haryana Roadways bus HR47GV8116, operated by the Rewari depot, had started from Gujjarwas village after an overnight halt and was heading towards Rewari.The bus was reportedly heavily crowded when it reached Khedi bus stand. Madhu was trying to board the bus when the vehicle allegedly started moving before she could get fully inside.She had reportedly placed one foot inside the bus when she lost her balance and fell onto the road. The bus’s tyre then passed over both her legs, leaving her critically injured.Following the accident, the bus driver, Ashok Kumar, 57, allegedly abandoned the vehicle and hid in a nearby millet field.Passengers and villagers chased him and brought him out of the field. Angry villagers allegedly assaulted the driver before police arrived. The incident triggered protests, with villagers blocking the road and demanding action.Kholsi police station SHO Vidya Shankar said the driver had been detained for questioning and that the Haryana Roadways bus had also been taken into police custody.“The driver is being questioned. Further action will be taken after the inquiry. If the investigation establishes that the driver was at fault, he will be arrested,” the SHO said.Madhu was admitted to PGI Rohtak at around 1 pm, where doctors described her condition as extremely critical. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries later in the day.The accident has also raised concerns over overcrowding on the route. Rewari depot representatives Praveen Kumar and Yashpal said they had repeatedly requested additional buses for the route.They said the shortage of buses forces passengers, including school and coaching students, to travel in overcrowded vehicles, creating serious safety risks.
