Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress has expelled former councillor Deepak Arora and his son Mohit Arora after they assaulted Bikaner city Congress president and former IPS officer Madan Gopal Meghwal over ticket distribution for urban local body elections.Meghwal had lodged a police complaint charging Mohit, Deepak and others with assaulting him during the inauguration of an election office in Bikaner’s Ward 50 on Sept 2.In an order issued the same day, Congress organisation general secretary Lalit Tunwal termed the misconduct “extremely serious indiscipline” and ordered the expulsion of both Aroras from the party’s primary membership.The incident also led to a police case. Bikaner SP Mridul Kachawa said four youths had been detained so far. A case was registered at JN Vyas Colony police station on Meghwal’s complaint against Mohit and others under assault-related provisions and the SC/ST Act. RPS officer Arvind Kumar is investigating the case.According to the complaint, Mohit and youths accompanying him slapped and punched Meghwal and tore his kurta before fleeing the spot.In a video message released soon after the incident, Mohit alleged he was provoked by repeated remarks from Meghwal over denial of a party ticket. “I was invited there. I did not go there on my own,” he said, alleging that Meghwal repeatedly mocked him over the ticket.Mohit claimed the ticket was initially allotted to him but given to another worker later. He said he had audio recordings and other evidence related to the ticket distribution process.Warning Congress members to stop threatening his family, Mohit said, “If they do not stop, I have enough evidence to expose the malpractises involved in ticket distribution in Bikaner.”He also released purported audio conversations with former city Congress president Yashpal Gehlot and Bikaner East election in charge.Mohit claimed he was not absconding and would appear before police if contacted. Police are examining his videos and purported audio recordings as part of the investigation.
