Sonipat: Having travelled nearly 300km to find temporary farm work in Haryana, five men from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district were killed on the KMP Expressway in Sonipat on Thursday morning when their Maruti Suzuki Eeco MUV rammed into a wrongly parked truck.A sixth person was critically injured and six others suffered injuries, said ASI Dinesh Kumar, investigating officer from Kharkhoda police station.The MUV carrying 12 farm workers was near IMT, Kharkhoda, and was headed for Jhajjar when the accident took place around 4.30am. According to police, the workers were heading to harvest bajra for farms. All 12 people in the MUV were from Badhepura village in Pilibhit district, and were accompanied by a contractor.Three of the workers died on the spot. The injured were taken to the govt hospital in Kharkhoda, where one died during treatment. Another succumbed to his injuries at PGIMS, Rohtak.The deceased included Mewaram, Sushil, Agrawal Verma, Ram Naresh and Mohammad Arif. Their families have been informed.Police could not establish who was driving the MUV. ASI Kumar said the truck driver was on the run and police were investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. Kharkhoda police station in charge Anil Kumar said CCTV footage from cameras near the spot was being examined.
