39-year-old assaulted at feast dies in Dhubri hospital

Dhubri: A 39-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted during a duck feast (a traditional Assamese culinary celebration) at Rupsi Part-II village under Rupsi police outpost in Parbatjhora subdivision of Dhubri on Saturday night, triggering tension in the area. However, no arrest has been made so far.According to reports, an altercation broke out during the feast among Biswajit Roy, Biju Roy and Ranjit Roy. The quarrel soon turned violent, leaving Ranjit seriously injured.He was first taken to Rupsi Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where he later succumbed to his injuries.His death plunged his family and local residents into grief. A pall of gloom descended on the village after the body was brought back to his residence.Ranjit’s family lodged an FIR at Rupsi police outpost, alleging that Biswajit Roy and Biju Roy assaulted him, leading to his death. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.A police source at Rupsi said the two accused, Biswajit Roy and Biju Roy, were absconding. The bereaved family has demanded their immediate arrest and strict punishment.
