Gurgaon: MCG on Monday demolished 31 structures, including under-construction and residential buildings, during a citywide enforcement action against unauthorised construction and violations of building bye-laws. Encroachments were also cleared from roads and public spaces.Officials said the demolition drive marked the first day of a month-long enforcement campaign launched in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court and MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya.The action was carried out in DPG Colony, Sector 34, Ryan Enclave, Bhondsi, Ashok Vihar-2, Krishna Colony, Sector 69, the restricted area around Ammunition Depot and Bhimgarh Kheri, among other locations.The civic body said teams across zones will continue to identify unauthorised constructions and encroachments and take action in accordance with the law. The exercise is aimed at clearing public spaces and municipal land, keeping roads and lanes free of obstructions and ensuring planned development and better public facilities in the city, said officials.Dahiya said, “Illegal and unauthorised construction won’t be tolerated. Comprehensive action has been initiated across all zones to ensure compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.”The commissioner directed officials to ensure that enforcement action is carried out fairly, transparently and within the law, and that illegal constructions and encroachments do not receive protection.The structures targeted on Monday included buildings without approved plans, constructions raised without required approvals and properties violating building bye-laws. The action followed an MCG public notice issued on Sunday warning plot and building owners against illegal change of land use, unauthorised construction and occupation of buildings without mandatory approvals and certificates.In the notice, MCG said it had surveyed buildings constructed without change of land use or conversion permission, approved building plans, no-objection certificates and occupation certificates. It said several owners had failed to obtain mandatory approvals under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 and Haryana Building Code, 2017.The corporation also flagged cases where owners had obtained building-plan approval through self-certification under the Online Building Plan Approval System but later subdivided plots illegally, converted to commercial land or premises and carried out additional construction in violation of building bye-laws.MCG said some buildings violated setback and parking norms or lacked mandatory clearances, while others had been occupied or used without the required approval from authorities.
