GURGAON: Palwal Police arrested 58 wanted accused, including 13 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 45 bail jumpers, during a week-long special drive, with some of those caught having remained absconding for more than a decade.The campaign, conducted from September 16 to 22 on the directions of SP Deepti Garg, targeted accused who had been evading arrest in cases involving serious offences including dacoity, murder, robbery, smuggling, kidnapping and offences under the POCSO Act.Among those arrested was Arif, who was wanted in a 2015 dacoity case, and Majid, who had been absconding since 2011 in a theft case, police said.Two other accused, Rakesh and Abhishek, were wanted in cases involving kidnapping and offences under the POCSO Act.Police said several of the 45 bail jumpers arrested during the drive were wanted in cases registered under the Arms Act, cheating, robbery and the Excise Act.The accused had remained away from the reach of police despite being required to appear before courts.The crackdown was launched after Garg directed district police teams to intensify efforts to trace proclaimed offenders and accused who had violated bail conditions.“Escaping Palwal Police is no longer easy. Many criminals are still on our radar and have been identified. They will soon be behind bars,” Garg said.Police said the arrested accused were produced before the courts following their arrests.Garg said the campaign had also yielded positive results in checking crime in the district and claimed that crime had declined during the period.Police said efforts to trace other proclaimed offenders and bail jumpers identified by the district police are continuing.
