Gurgaon: Nearly 30,000 applications have been received for around 10,000 undergraduate seats across 10 govt colleges in the district, with students now awaiting the release of the first merit list.According to the Higher Education Department’s admission schedule, document verification is underway and will continue till July 6. The list of candidates who can apply for the merit process will be displayed on July 8, followed by the first provisional merit list on July 9 and the first merit list on July 10.Students selected in the first merit list will have to deposit their fees between July 11 and 15 to confirm admission. The department will also provide a window for candidates to rectify details in their application forms after the provisional list is published, following which necessary corrections will be made before the final merit list is published.Among the district’s colleges, Govt College Sector 9, Dronacharya Govt College and Govt Girls College Sector 14 have emerged as the most preferred institutions among applicants.Govt College Sector 9 received 9,464 applications for 1,430 seats, while Dronacharya Govt College recorded 8,990 applications for 3,120 seats. Govt College Helimandi received 774 applications for 660 seats.Competition was comparatively lower in several rural colleges. Govt College Sohna-Pataudi received 102 applications for 240 seats, Govt College Rithoj recorded 259 applications for 240 seats, Sultanpur Govt College received 572 applications for 320 seats, Govt College Manesar recorded 480 applications for 440 seats, and Govt College Sector 52 received 299 applications for 440 seats. Applications received for Govt Girls College Sector 14 and Govt College Sidhravali also contributed to the district’s overall total of nearly 30,000.College officials said the verification process is progressing as scheduled and advised students to regularly check the admission portal for updates.Sanjay Katyal, admission coordinator at Govt College Sector 9, said students should closely monitor document verification and deadlines to raise objections to avoid missing important updates.Sonika, nodal officer at Dronacharya Govt College, said merit lists would be prepared strictly on the basis of eligibility and marks, making timely correction of discrepancies essential.Ashok, admission nodal officer at Govt College Helimandi, said students who do not secure admission in the first merit list will have another opportunity through the second merit list and subsequent physical counselling rounds scheduled later this month.
