1 dies as van crashes into median pole in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old man died and six others were injured after a Tempo Traveller rammed into an electric pole on the central median of Nagarabhavi Outer Ring Road early Sunday.The deceased, Manoj Kumar S, a Laggere resident and office assistant at a private firm, was travelling with friends to Mysuru for a one-day trip. The accident occurred around 1.30am near Sri Male Mahadeshwara Temple, police said.According to Jnanabharathi traffic police, the vehicle (KA-41-C-7812) was being driven by Ravi, 28, from Sumanahalli towards Nagarabhavi at high speed and in a negligent manner. He lost control and crashed into the pole. Manoj was thrown out and came under the vehicle’s wheels. He was taken to Victoria Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.The other injured passengers were shifted to hospitals and are out of danger.Witnesses alleged that youths were performing wheelies, but police ruled this out, saying it was raining and that Ravi was driving under the influence of alcohol. A case has been registered against him.Two Other Accidents Within 500 MetresTwo other accidents were reported within 500 metres on ORR around midnight Saturday. A mini goods vehicle carrying food for an apartment was hit by a private bus and crashed. Further ahead, a Mitsubishi Canter hit an underpass side wall, damaging the barrier and hanging precariously over the bridge. No injuries were reported.
