Pune: A 30-year-old worker, Mohammed Irfan Yusuf, died in a fire that broke out at a paint storage unit in Vetalnagar, Kondhwa, late on Friday night.Fire brigade officials reached the spot around 11pm and found that the paint storage unit, which was located on the ground floor, had already been engulfed in fire.Senior inspector Santosh Khetmalas of Kondhwa police said, “Yusuf and his co-workers were carrying out welding in the store. The unit was stocked with thinners and paints, which are highly flammable. Co-workers of the deceased told us that while welding, a spark fell into a container of thinner, triggering the fire. He managed to get out, but Yusuf couldn’t. He suffered severe burns and succumbed.”“We have registered an accidental death report and will register an FIR after recording the statements of Yusuf’s relatives,” he added.
