Two more arrested in abduction, murder of 6 Nagas

Imphal: A joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday arrested two more accused in connection with the abduction and killing of six Nagas, police said.The arrested persons were identified as Lungoulal Vaiphei, son of Paothenkam Vaiphei, a resident of Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district, and Lunminthang Sitlhou alias Jack, son of Paolen Sitlhou, a resident of Molhoi village in Kangpokpi district.Police said the duo was arrested following sustained investigation into the case involving the abduction and killing of six Nagas. They added that efforts were underway to trace and arrest other individuals involved in the case.The case has drawn widespread attention in the state, with several Naga civil society organisations demanding justice and swift action against those involved in the killings. Naga organisations are enforcing an inter-district economic blockade, demanding justice in the case.Saturday’s arrest came eight days after a joint team of the Manipur Police, NIA and CRPF arrested a husband-wife duo in connection with the abduction and killing of six villagers from Konsakhul in Kangpokpi district.The mutilated and dismembered bodies of the six Nagas were found on June 10, nearly a month after their abduction from Leilon Vaiphei, a Kuki village in Kangpokpi district. The bodies are still being kept at JNIMS mortuary as families refused to claim them until justice is delivered.
