Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), in partnership with Rotary Club, launched Project Punarjanma—“The Reincarnation of Technology”—on Wednesday at Paryavaran Bhawan, Sector 19-B, to mark International E-Waste Day.The initiative aims to promote responsible electronic waste disposal, strengthen authorised recycling, and build a regional circular economy model. As part of the drive, a dedicated e-waste collection van will operate across the city to gather discarded electrical and electronic equipment directly from residents.Addressing the launch, the CPCC member Secretary highlighted the severe health and environmental hazards of dumping e-waste through informal scrap dealers, stressing the need to redirect all discarded electronics solely through authorised channels.A UT spokesperson urged the public to avoid unorganised scrap sellers, adding, “Residents are advised to avoid disposing of or selling e-waste to unorganised scrap dealers and to use authorised collection channels. For pickup requests, they may call or message 98829 71255 or 82880 79366.”Guided by the motto “Recycle Today for a Greener Tomorrow,” the project will run extensive awareness campaigns alongside mobile collections across educational institutions, civil society groups, and residential areas.
