Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly drugging her landlord and his family by mixing an intoxicating substance in kheer before stealing cash and valuables worth around Rs 7 lakh from their Sahibabad house.The accused, Ayesha, a resident of Arthala, had been living as a tenant in the house in Neelmani Colony for around three years. Her alleged associates, including her boyfriend Anas, Khalil and another man, are yet to be arrested.According to police, the incident took place on the evening of Aug 17. Ayesha allegedly brought the kheer to the landlord’s family, saying she had prepared it for guests and had brought some for them as well. After eating it, the family members became unconscious, police said. Ayesha allegedly then entered the house with her associates and stole cash and valuables worth around Rs 7 lakh.The landlord, Dildar, lodged a complaint with the police on Aug 18. He alleged that Ayesha and her associates had gained the trust of his family before carrying out the theft.ACP Sahibabad Amit Saxena said police formed several teams to investigate the case. “Ayesha was arrested on Aug 23 from the railway underpass near Balaji Vihar, Pusta Road. Police recovered Rs 34,190, a PAN card and a passport slip from her possession,” Saxena said.During questioning, Ayesha allegedly told police that Anas had approached her with a plan to target the family, knowing that the landlord was wealthy and trusted her. Police said Anas allegedly gave her a packet containing an intoxicating substance and asked her to mix it with food. Ayesha allegedly mixed it into the kheer and served it to the family.“The stolen money was later divided among them, with Anas allegedly giving Ayesha her share,” Saxena said.A case has been registered under sections 123 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 305 (theft) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS. A search is underway to trace and arrest the other accused, police said.
