Murder accused out on bail shot dead in Jewar

Noida: A 40-year-old man was shot dead by four assailants on motorcycles in the Jahangirpur area of Jewar on Wednesday. Police said the victim, Imran, had been jailed in connection with a murder case in 2021 and was out on bail.Police said that Imran, a resident of Jahangirpur, had gone to a medical store late on Wednesday night to buy medicines. He stopped at a nearby shop to grab a cold drink. While there, the accused approached him on two motorcycles and opened fire. Imran sustained multiple bullet injuries and collapsed at the spot.Passersby alerted the police, who reached the spot and brought Imran to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A field unit and forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence. The body was sent for postmortem examination.Imran’s brother Farman subsequently registered a police complaint in the case, accusing seven people – Anees, Nafees, Sheru alias Arif, Chand, Yunus, Jan Mohammad and one unidentified person – of committing the murder. An FIR was registered and teams have been formed to locate and arrest the accused. Raids are being conducted at several locations, police said.Investigators said the killing was likely carried out as part of a longstanding feud. Imran was a history sheeter with around 10 criminal cases registered against him. He had also been arrested in connection with the 2021 murder of Yunus, a resident of Jahangirpur, and was later released on bail.Investigation indicates that Imran may have been targeted in retaliation for Yunus’s murder. The two families have allegedly been involved in a prolonged dispute, and police are investigating the role of people associated with both sides.“It appears that the victim was being followed before the murder,” DCP (Greater Noida) Ravi Shankar Nim said, adding that results of the post-mortem examination are awaited.Security has been strengthened in Jahangirpur to prevent any escalation of tension between the two groups, police said, adding that further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
