Ghaziabad: A young woman was found murdered with her throat slit in a jowar field on Thursday morning, with police suspecting she was brought to the spot unconscious, dragged into the field and killed there in an attempt to dump the body away from public view. The victim, yet to be identified, is believed to be around 25 years old.The body was discovered around 9.15am in a field along Kajipura-Bayana road in Kajipur forest after farmers noticed something unusual in the standing crop.According to ACP (Wave City) Priyashree Pal, Parvesh Chaudhary, a local farmer, alerted the police control room after finding the woman’s body lying about 40 metres inside his jowar field. Cops found drag marks cutting through the crop, which had been flattened along the route leading to the body.“The pattern at the scene suggests a vehicle may have stopped on the roadside and the woman was dragged into the field before being attacked on the neck with a sharp-edged weapon,” Pal said.Police said the woman was wearing a salwar suit and her dupatta was found covering her body. Her throat had been slit, and injury marks were also visible on her face. Despite efforts, local residents could not identify her.A senior police officer said the absence of blood along the drag trail, despite the body being pulled nearly 40 metres, has strengthened the suspicion that the woman was still alive, though possibly unconscious, when she was taken into the field. “There was a lot of blood where the body lay, indicating she was killed at that spot,” the officer said.Police are also examining whether the woman was sexually assaulted before the murder. “There are injury marks on her face. It is suspected she may first have been overpowered and possibly rendered unconscious with an intoxicating substance. Whether she was sexually assaulted will be known only after the autopsy report,” Pal said.The body has been preserved in the mortuary, while the woman’s photograph has been circulated among police stations in neighbouring districts in an effort to establish her identity. Three police teams have been formed to identify the victim, trace her movements before the murder and track down those responsible.No FIR had been registered till late Thursday as police were awaiting the woman’s identification and a formal complaint.
