Power supply to condo snapped over dues, 6th time in a year
The society owes more than Rs 2 crore to GNIDA, and its water supply faces disconnection

Noida: Noida Power Company Ltd (NPCL) disconnected electricity supply to Mahagun Mywoods in Greater Noida West at 9am on Friday over unpaid dues. It was the sixth such disruption since Nov 2025. The supply was restored around 5.30pm.“The society had outstanding dues of Rs 1,78,01,835 against its Sept 2026 electricity bill. Between Oct 5 and 14, it paid only Rs 1,07,50,646, leaving Rs 70,51,189 unpaid. The connection was therefore liable for disconnection on this amount,” NPCL said. On Friday, the society paid a further Rs 48 lakh and submitted an undertaking to clear the remaining Rs 22 lakh on Saturday. The condominium, which has 6,158 flats housing approximately 5,000 families, runs on a single-point electricity connection. It had been on power backup for over eight hours.NPCL said the builder’s maintenance team had not cleared the dues despite repeated warnings and notices. “Mahagun Mywoods Society has a history of delayed payments, compelling us to take disconnection action on several occasions. We have issued multiple notices and granted opportunities for this society to clear its outstanding dues. Timely payment is essential, and repeated failures can lead to such actions as per our procedures, in which we give a prior one-week notice before the disconnection action,” said an NPCL spokesperson.According to the discom, the society has faced disconnections on five earlier occasions: on Nov 21, 2025, with outstanding dues of Rs 85.4 lakh; Dec 15, 2025 (Rs 68 lakh); March 16, 2026 (Rs 71.4 lakh); April 14, 2026 (Rs 46.7 lakh); and Sept 17, 2026 (Rs 51.5 lakh). The recurring cuts have angered residents. In a letter written to the district magistrate and the chief executive officer of GNIDA on Friday, the apartment owners association (AOA) sought transfer of common area maintenance from Mahagun Group to the AOA. The letter alleges mismanagement and irregularities by the builder. The letter lists several grievances. Frequent power cuts force residents to rely on diesel generator (DG) sets, for which the builder levies extra charges, even as they continue to pay maintenance and electricity costs. Non-payment to the maintenance agency has led to a sharp drop in security cover as well, with personnel on strike. “This absence of proper security has resulted in incidents of theft and vandalism within the premises,” said Anil Verma, AOA president.Verma also pointed to a looming water crisis. The society owes more than Rs 2 crore to GNIDA, and its water supply faces disconnection. “Compounding the issue, the society’s sewage treatment plant has been out of service for the past three years,” he said. The builder’s maintenance team was yet to respond at the time of going to print.
