Kolkata: The city is expected to get spells of light to moderate rain on Friday, similar to that on Thursday. The Met office has forecast an overcast sky for one more day before the rain declined from Saturday.Alipore recorded a 24-hour rainfall of 8.1 mm till 5.30 pm on Thursday. The overcast sky and the continuous drizzle pulled the city’s temperature down below 30°C for the second consecutive day as the maximum temperature was recorded at 29.1°C, 2.6 notches below normal. At 26.1°C the minimum temperature also stayed below normal, albeit slightly. “We expect similar weather conditions on Friday, when Kolkata will get a few spells of light to moderate rain. By Saturday, the skies are expected to have less cloud cover and the rainfall activities to reduce in Kolkata and parts of south Bengal,” said H R Biswas, head at IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.“While the July rain count for Kolkata is a bit on the negative side, the seasonal rain for the city is still a surplus. Between June 1 and 22, the city received 615 mm of rainfall, against a normal count of 569 mm,” said Biswas.
