LUCKNOW: A woman was allegedly hit by a car, carried on its bonnet for some distance and then thrown onto the road after a heated argument with her “boyfriend” near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Extension on Wednesday morning.In a viral video of the incident, the woman, identified as Anamika, was seen clinging desperately to the bonnet of a moving car and apparently crying for help. The footage prompted swift police action, with the accused Shahnawaz Ali being arrested later in the day.Police said Anamika, 22, and Shahnawaz, 26, had been in a relationship for a year. Preliminary investigation suggests that the two had an argument near the park after Anamika caught Shahnawaz with another woman in his car.Police said Anamika confronted him, following which the woman accompanying Shahnawaz left the spot. As the argument escalated, Shahnawaz got into the car with another person, identified as Danish, and tried to drive away.Anamika reportedly stood in front of the vehicle in an attempt to stop him.In her FIR, Anamika, a resident of Vineet Khand in Gomti Nagar, claimed she was at a tea stall with her aunt and sister near Gate No. 4 of Janeshwar Mishra Park around 6:30am when she saw Shahnawaz.Anamika alleged that Shahnawaz drove the car towards her with the intention of hitting her after she confronted him. She claimed that she jumped onto the bonnet and held on to the windshield wiper in an attempt to save herself. She alleged she was thrown onto the ground and that Shahnawaz then drove a tyre of the vehicle over her to kill her.She further alleged that Shahnawaz had assaulted and abused her on several earlier occasions as well. According to the complaint, she lost consciousness after being hit by the vehicle.Police said that instead of stopping, Shahnawaz drove forward, hitting Anamika and leaving her on the bonnet. The car drove for another 20-25 metres as Anamika struggled to hold on.An eyewitness told police that the car initially moved slowly but then accelerated, causing the woman to lose her grip and fall onto the road. The witness alleged that the car then passed over the woman before speeding away. Anamika suffered injuries, including to her hand, police said.Anamika has alleged that Shahnawaz had introduced himself to her as “Yash Thakur” and that she learnt his actual identity during the confrontation.Shahnawaz, who is into construction business, denied the allegations and claimed he was being implicated. He told police that Anamika had been following and harassing him for the past six months and had also taken money from him. Police said these claims were being examined.DCP East Deeksha Sharma said, “Preliminary questioning revealed that the accused and the woman were known to each other. A dispute took place between them, following which the man allegedly hit the woman with the car and fled,” she said.The DCP said an FIR under Sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 352 (intentional insult) of the BNS has been registered against Shahnwaz Ali and Danish.
