Gorakhpur: Police arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her aunt (mami) and looting jher jewellery in Campierganj area of Gorakhpur. The accused, Radhika Paswan, was arrested with the murder weapon and the stolen ornaments.According to police, the body of a 60-year-old woman was found in Babban forest, about 150-200 metres off the road, on June 21. After the deceased was identified, a murder case was registered at Campierganj police station and an investigation was launched.During interrogation, Radhika, 45, confessed that she had a long-standing dispute with her aunt. On June 20, she reportedly called the victim to Campierganj on the pretext of discussing a marriage proposal of her son. While passing through a forest area, the accused allegedly attacked her aunt with a knife and slit her throat. She then removed the victim’s jewellery and fled.Police recovered the knife used in the crime, a pair of silver anklets, two silver rings, a gold ear stud, a gold pin, a gold locket, two pieces of a broken gold chain and a mobile phone from her possession.SP North Gyanendra Nath said police teams were formed to crack the case. Based on technical evidence, field investigation and questioning, the accused was arrested and the stolen jewellery as well as the weapon used in the crime were recovered. Further legal action is being taken, he said.
